在给一家外商独资企业（WFOE）做Article of Association （章程）。 需要翻译一个词“备案” 随便上网查看了一下字典，什么put on record， entered into records，for the record, 等等五花八门，我没时间去论证其对错真伪，但是就是觉得不对劲。于是乎，苦思冥想，在我有限的词汇库里寻找真命天词。

结果FILE跑了进来，马上去查朗文，她是这么说的：

在19楼注册了发了几周的帖子，发现了一些非常普遍的错误。最常见的就是把“顶”说成up了。其实“顶”是BUMP！注意，BUMP是Bring Up My Post（帮我顶贴）的意思，而不是我们常说的那个表示撞击，撞见某人，抬高物价，杀死某人等的bump。但是经常发这样的帖子或者笑脸之类的行为就会被称为spam，这样的人也就是spammer。就算想顶自己的帖子，也尽量发一些有价值的信息。

Post指的是，比如，我发的这个帖子的第一个贴就是post，而你我的回帖和我的首发帖子一起组成了一个thread。thread在朗文中的解释是a series of messages concerning the same subject, written by members of an Internet discussion group。
而那些看贴不回的人被称作lurker，论坛新手（即我们说的菜鸟）被称作newbie，另外一个称谓是n00b，但是好像有较多贬义，用来形容新手么时要注意一点。
那些发恶意帖子或回帖进行挑衅和人身攻击的行为叫做troll。这是一个网友的解释：
One who purposely and deliberately (that purpose usually being self-amusement) starts an argument in a manner which attacks others on a forum without in any way listening to the arguments proposed by his or her peers. Avatar是头像的意思，
Highlight是加精，
Retard是指那些在论坛上试图找到那些可以在10分钟内就疯狂地爱上他们进而愿意为他们做任何事情，并因为对方是一个理智的人而恼羞成怒的人

最后还是劝告一句，别用你臆想出来的毫无根据的英语，你并不会从反复不断地重复自己的错误中进步。

这几天三番两次在电视节目上听到Rad这个单词，刚才又在一个脱口秀节目Real Time With
Bill Maher上听到嘉宾用了这个词，想来这个词在美国应该是被广泛使用的。

最早是在一个自命不凡的杭州人写的一本小书上看到这个单词的，意思和phat，awesome，tight，cool，dope差不多，都是酷毙了，帅呆了之类的意思。

那么rad为什么在俚语中有这样的意思呢？

不妨研究一下它的词源。Rad，来自radical。Radical美国的口语中有表very good 或者 enjoyable。比如

Father: This is the biggest crap I’ve even taken.
Son: That’s totally radical.

据说，是由于80年代忍者神龟在美国大行其道的时候，里面的小乌龟们喜欢把radical说成是rad，造成了这个缩写词的跟着动画片一起流行起来。一开始都是一些青少年在使用，久而久之，其使用的年龄层也日渐提高，而且被认为比awesome和cool这些词更能够表达一样东西有多好多酷。 而且显然比phat这些词来得生命力更持久，更受认同些。
